Logarithmic Spiral
Logarithmic Spiral had amazing talent. When without
someone remarking how clever little Logarithmic
Spiral was.
When Logarithmic Spiral went to kinder the same
thing happened. At parent teacher interviews the
teachers would tell Logarithmic Spiral's Mum how
talented her child was.  Everyone was so proud of
Logarithmic Spirals' achievements.  And so was
Logarithmic Spiral, that was until the time came to
enrol into Prep grade at the local school.
Prep grade was fun. While others were off finger
painting and learning to read, the teacher was getting
books in from the library that were of a higher standard
than what the others were doing for Logarithmic Spiral.
The kids didn't seem to mind and no one said
anything bad to Logarithmic Spiral about it. That was
until the next year and the years to follow. Suddenly
others started to notice that Logarithmic Spiral was
smarter than them and they started to tease.
Harmless words but they still hurt.  It didn't happen
every day at first, but as time went by Logarithmic
Spiral couldn't even arrive to school without someone
calling out names like smarty pants and brainy brains
and lots of others.
Slowly Logarithmic Spiral started to feel like a target.
Just like in an archery competition. Logarithmic Spiral
felt like a big round board with points on it. Who could
score the funniest comment? Who could get the most
high fives in the air? What the teasing kids didn't know
was that each time they did this it was like an arrow on
that board hitting the target and hurting the body.
At the end of each school day Logarithmic Spiral felt
like a grater with holes all through and sharp cutting
edges from the piercing arrows.
Logarithmic Spiral stopped trying to be smart and
stopped answering questions. But that didn't stop the
teasing. Logarithmic Spiral started to be told off more
and started acting up hoping that the other children
would stop the name calling and teasing.
Logarithmic Spiral just wanted to be like the others,
but the others didn't want Logarithmic Spiral.  So
Logarithmic Spiral decided that if the other kids
wanted a human target then so be it.  Logarithmic
Spiral would give them something to aim at.
Logarithmic Spiral decided to continue learning and
one day maybe, just maybe, the other children would
realise that it's OK to be smart and talented and be a
high achiever.
Can you describe how Logarithmic Spiral would have
felt being a human target by colouring in Logarithmic
Spiral on the next page.
