Rocky
Rocky and Gentle Annie  were family. They were
cousins, but as different as chalk and cheese. They
lived in different parts of the goldfields. Rocky was
from Rocky Gully and Gentle Annie was from Gentle
Annie Gully.

This is the story of Rocky

Rocky was from Rocky Gully and was named for one
thing and it isn't what you think. Rocky didn't have
rocks in his head, but was really bright at school.

The problem with Rocky was that he was the first to
stumble and fall over any rock or any stone or any tuft
of grass on any path.

But Rocky had a dream. To play the one thing he liked.
Soccer.
Only one major problem. Rocky had two left feet the
cause of all the stumbling.

Rocky used to stumble down the mountain to soccer
training each week. But alas, at training when the ball
came in Rocky's direction suddenly that tuft of grass
lifted his foot and oops on his backside he went.
Somehow the coach had to try and get the two left feet
to become one right and one left and then to connect
to the soccer ball. The coach tried everything but
nothing seemed to work. Suddenly the coach had a
brainwave.
What if at training they put obstacles down in front of
Rocky?
A purpose built obstacle course, so to speak, to try
and get Rocky to focus on moving his feet and
eventually avoiding the obstacles altogether.
Week after week the coach tried and slowly  the
obstacles started being avoided and the two left feet
became the right way around.
Eventually the tufts of grass were no longer obstacles
to Rocky and to Rocky's relief no more bruised
backsides.

Try to imagine the pleased expression on Rocky's face
now that he is able to avoid obstacles. You can do this
by joining the dots together to form a design (page 2),
and then colouring in your finished art work. Or you
can just colour in the design done by Maddy on page 3.
